Purpose Overload
There’s a whole lot of people out there who plan a whole lot of things for themselves in advance, but that doesn’t mean that everything will pan out the way they want it to. Sometimes you just have to lower your chances of going wrong rather than assuming that everything will be perfect.
It’s just like the great greek freak Giannis said: losing doesn’t mean that you failed - sometimes luck just doesn’t go your way. So just work yourself to exhaustion and see how things turn out.
Winning is easier when you can circumvent the rules. There’s lots of ways to gain an unfair advantage - money is one of them, but then again I suppose the media still covers them as winners no matter how you see it. What’sthe point of forming a superteam in an amateur league?
As much as you want to brag about being a winner, a true winner never brags at all. They just look forward to winning the next. The purpose goes beyond just winning.
Leadership is crucial in any level of competition. People fear pressure, but the more pressure you share with your teammates, the more you can relate to each other and fid reasons to push each other.
Some players are vocal, some aren’t, but the great ones never shy away from being a leader.
At the end of the day, it’s all about showing the best example for the team. There are indeed super talented players all around, but there are even more intangibles and gifts that players hold which not many people know how to utilize or unlock. If winning is the only way to showcase a person’s gift then every coach I know would be out of a job by now. It’s about putting players in the right system and surrouding them with the right teammates. How can a program turn a player’s career - or even their life around? Show them the purpose of sports, how you compete and why you need to compete. Not giving up when the shots aren’t falling or when you make mistakes day by day, how do you overcome it?
It all becomes fun once you learn to control your emotions. When you reach the point when you realize that emotions are not supposed to be involved in making decisions, you are going to achieve complete ZEN mode. When you have that positivity, more people around you will want to be like you or share the floor with you. Now that’s a successful program.
When it comes to coaching in the pro leagues, everything ends up being measured by wins. Whenever money is involved in winning, it’s a whole different ball game. You can train like a pro, think like a pro, eat like a pro, but can you think beyond your limits?
Make the necessary sacrifices to be better at something you love. Make love to the pressure, find the motivation for you to be great at it.
If you play a team sport, try doing yourself a favor: focus more on doing things for others than for yourself. For example, helping and pushing people to reach their weight - it doesn’t benefit you directly, but it would be super helpful for you and your team. Don’t get caught up in your own ego thinking that you’re the star who has to play 40 minutes, but there’s no harm in training like you are. Things will be different, you’ll create a better environment, you’ll have more motivation to train, and now: everyone will feel organically obliged to train together with you.
